Randy Jones, the original Village People Cowboy, is featured prominently throughout
Disco: Spinning the Story, a major new documentary release from Passport International Studios. Jones is seen in interviews and performance clips along with fellow artists from the era such as funk pioneer George Clinton, Donna Summer, producer Giorgio Moroder, Nile Rodgers of Chic, Earl Young of the Trammps, hip-hop icon Kurtis Blow, remix legend Tom Moulton, Saturday Night Fever actress, Karen Lynn Gorney and even Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead as they speak about the roots of Disco, how it emerged, and how it has influenced music ever since. Randy Jones in the E! True Hollywood Story: Village People (October 2002)
"A lot of the nightlife that people think we were so totally immersed in and associated with us...we rarely got a taste of except maybe to jump out of a limousine at 4am in the the morning, run into a club and do a quick appearance, only to be whisked out 15 minutes later onto another gig. But, baby, it was FUN! Sometimes, just a taste is all you need!" "The Y.M.C.A. dance was really an organic thing that came from the audience...I believe it was the audience at Dick Clark's American Bandstand...and to this day every weekend somewhere on this globe at weddings, bar mitzvahs, birthday parties, and maybe even funerals, people are dancing to Y.M.C.A." "Henri Belolo, our manager and executive producer, who was orchestrating the group knew he had to strike while the iron was hot, and he wanted to get as much out of his artists as he could. And he did...so Hollywood here we came." "I am very blessed because the financial benefits from my work as Village People to this day are nice, and allow me the freedom to live a life that's quite comfortable." "When someone hears 'Y.M.C.A.' ,'Macho Man', 'In the Navy' or any of those songs, they're uplifted... they don't feel sad. Immediately when someone hears one of these songs, they smile. And that's a great legacy." |
